Stained Glass Owl #2

So, this is my second stained glass owl. I made him much simpler than the first one (learn from your mistakes!) and the combination of practice and a simpler design has led to a better finish I think. I'm really pleased with his eyes, which are glass nuggets held in place with wire. My course has just finished but I'm looking forward to carrying on and improving. I've almost finished my first leaded piece as well so I must crack on with that.

  1. Hi. I was surfing the net looking for stained glass owls for inspiration. I have a lot of amber 70s glass that I have been using to make owls. Your owl is cute. I like him the way he is. If you want to get better at glass cutting, just get a pile of scrap glass and several different cutters and keep them in a jar with oil in the bottom, and a top that screws on. Cut a pile of owls out of old window glass, or you can buy scrap shards on Ebay and Etsy. Some stained glass stores also sell their scrap glass. You can also hone the edges of glass with special pliers instead of buying a big expensive messy glass grinder. Try to make a rose suncatcher. People love pink or red roses.

  2. Hi,

Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I haven't done any glass for awhile but you've inspired me to get back to it, thanks!
