Pen drawing. I was really pleased with this drawing. There was another piece but I think it looks better with just this section.

Last week's life drawing session was a really good one. I had a couple of new people which was great and I really enjoyed the session. Martin was our model and came, as always, well prepared and with some excellent poses.

Thursday was the last of the current set of life drawing sessions, the next set starts on 26th April. It was a little bit on the chilly side so we had to cut a couple of the poses short. We did eventually find the thermostat but by that point it was almost time to finish! Never mind, I know for next time. Martin gave us some excellent poses but I couldn't seem to find my drawing mojo and I wasn't very pleased with my drawings but that's just the way it goes sometimes. We had a new model for this session, Martin Rowe who's blog you can find here. He had some excellent poses and it was good to draw someone different. I think I've been really lucky with the models I've found; they've all been excellent at choosing and holding poses and have always been punctual and reliable and to top it off they're all nice people! I was really tired on Thursday and I struggled (as usual) with the longer poses, I couldn't get into to doing any detailed drawing so I resorted to my favourite pen and continuous line style. I think Martin was quite surprised at the size of my drawings, they do seem to be spreading over increasing numbers of pieces of paper, it makes photographing them quite difficult but it's fun whilst doing the drawing.

It's hard to believe it's over a month since I last posted. I seem to have been very busy but I'm not totally sure what with, apart from decorating. Last Thursday was the first of my Life Drawing sessions of the new year. It was a really quiet group but a really good session, helped ease us back in gently! Here are some of my drawings. I'm finding it hard to work on a drawing for any length of time at the moment, I find 15 minutes is about as long as I can stick with one drawing. I also prefer my freer, shorter drawings. I suppose it feels like there's less pressure to produce a 'perfect' drawing if you only have 5 minutes. When you start working on something for a length of time the pressure mounts!

New year, new drawing sessions!

On Thursday I ran the last of my three trial life drawing sessions. It went very well, as have the previous two, so I have booked another set for next year. If you're interested, please get in touch! It was interesting that everyone said they found some of the poses really difficult to capture but I see that as a good thing as it challenges us!

Thursday was the first of the life drawing sessions I've organised. I really enjoyed it and although it was a small group everyone who turned up was very friendly so it was a great atmosphere. The community centre we used was a great venue for us as well, nice and warm and clean and the centre manager was lovely and very helpful. I was also lucky to have an excellent model, so many thanks to her. The session made me realise how out of practise I was but I still really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to seeing my drawing improve over the next couple of sessions. Hopefully, the next two will be busier and then I will be able to set up some more and maybe make it a more regular thing.
