Last night was the first in this set of sessions and we had a new model. She was a little nervous I think but did a really good job, giving us some lovely poses. It was also nice to have a new model to draw as I find it makes me think more about my drawing and makes me want to try new things.

I was also pleased that a couple of new people came down to draw, as well as my faithful regular artists who always make an effort to come and support the group and are a big reason why I keep the group going.

I did a lot of quick line drawing this session, longer studies didn't seem to be working for me. For the longer pose I used water soluble graphite dipped in water and pencil but I struggled with the proportions and foreshortening of the pose.

I was really pleased with this little sketch that I did without looking at the paper. It's a very relaxing way to draw as you don't expect the drawing to be perfect so you are more able to appreciate its qualities. I was also pleased with the two 'crouchy' pose drawings.

I've been so busy with happy house moving that it's taken me ages to get around to taking the pictures for this blog post, but here it is. Better late than never!

How do these sessions come around so quickly? That's not a complaint, I really enjoy them but it feels like a lot less than two weeks in-between. Nick was our model again for this session and again provided us with some interesting poses to work from. It was nice to again welcome a new face to the group and hopefully another new face next session.

I struggled to get into the swing of things this evening, I'd spent some time on Wednesday preparing some papers so was feeling all organised and ready for action but somehow that took a while to translate into drawings I was happy with.

This started off in pencil but ended up in pen. Not a drawing I'm very happy with.

I did a lot of pen drawings again this session and I tried my two pen technique using two shads of blue. This gives quite a different affect to the blue and red which I quite like, it's a bit more subtle and doesn't mess with your eyes quite so much!

My beloved water-soluble graphite thing wasn't working so well for me this evening. I was very disappointed with my 15 minute pose drawing and I only really got going on the long pose about half way through. But it is all experience and one of the things that I really like about life drawing is that I can treat it purely as an opportunity to draw; it's great when I produce work that I'm happy with but its main purpose is to get my drawing. The actual taking part is more important than the end product.

Another really good session; a great turn-out and lovely to see both new and familiar faces. One of the great things about organising these sessions is that even when I really don't feel like it (and I really didn't this Thursday) I have to go. This is a good thing because I do always enjoy it and am glad that I've made the effort. I enjoy the drawing and find it inspiring and I also really like catching up with everyone. So, thank you everyone who comes along, you help make my Thursdays better!

Our model this week was Martin who is always a pleasure to work with. We had quite a few standing poses which was good as usually I tend to go for more crouch-y poses so it was good to try something a bit different. I mostly worked in pen again this week except for the longer pose where I used a combination of water-soluble and 'normal' graphite and wax crayon on a prepared background. I tried to get in a bit of detail and am reasonably pleased with how this piece has turned out.

I like this set of drawings from the final 10 minute pose. Although I've used the same media throughout I like that each drawing has a slightly different feel.
